ISSUE #2: FEBRUARY 2026

Hi. Hello. Welcome Back.

It’s Issue #2 and spring is almost here. This issue feels like that: anticipation, brightness, little sparks of joy. ✨

Okay but seriously… did you spa roll your towels? I need to know.

P.S. My mom asked what “Fravorites” means. Fair question. It’s a mashup: a few of my favorite things that I’m raving about.

Happy-Sad Music handmade in Chicago

DRAMA

DRAMA

In March 2020, right before the world shut down, I saw DRAMA live at a small venue in Portland. I’d bought tickets on a whim and invited a newer friend I wanted to get to know better.
We danced. We smiled. We danced some more.

At one point, she leaned over and said, “Her voice feels like ‘home.’ Why does her voice feel like ‘home?’“

I’ve been hooked ever since. On DRAMA, and on her. We’re still friends.

They’re a duo from Chicago, which makes me love them even more. Their music has been described as “happy sad music handmade in Chicago” and that feels exactly right. Soulful, dancey, emotional, fun.

I’m seeing them again in 13 days. Five years later. The friend from that first show? She’s coming too. And we’re bringing reinforcements. I cannot wait.

I’m resisting sending you 4 songs. Just start anywhere. They just released a new album and are on tour. Look for a show near you.

Give Flight Attendants Candy

Next time you board a plane, bring a bag of individually wrapped candy and hand it to the flight attendant greeting you at the door.

That’s it. That’s the whole thing.

It’s a way to recognize a human who somehow stays calm while people lose their minds over overhead bins.

How it usually goes: confusion, then surprise, then smile. Sometimes a flight attendant stops by your seat later: “Was that you? Thank you so much!”

Sometimes (not the point, but not a bad perk) you get free drinks or snacks. I’ve received reports of multiple rounds.

A friend tried this on her Christmas flight home and texted me after: “Gretchen you were right. The flight attendant was super happy I gave him a treat. Never seen anyone smile that hard.“

A reminder that spreading joy doesn’t take much. Sometimes it’s just candy.

Maybe people will think you’re a weirdo. Who cares? Worth it!
Spring break trips are coming. Pack some candy.

Waited 3 Years · Changed How I See Time

The Present – Year Clock

It’s a clock that takes a whole year to go around. One hand. One slow revolution.

I found it on Kickstarter and waited nearly three years for it to arrive. Those years had been hard ones, and somewhere along the way, the clock became a quiet symbol of hope: that time keeps moving, that things unfold.

Eighty-nine days after it arrived, it fell off the wall and broke. I was crushed. I reached out to the creator thinking it was a long shot. He replaced the whole thing, generously and without hesitation.

Now it sits on my windowsill. I catch myself glancing at it constantly, noticing which color the hand is in. Right now,
I’m watching it inch toward green. Toward spring.

It doesn’t tell me what time it is. It tells me where I am.

They’re still available, though pricier now. But the creator has shifted toward Public Placements, putting them in libraries, hospitals, waiting rooms. Maybe someday you’ll notice a circular rainbow on a wall somewhere. And maybe you’ll pause.

Thanks for being here. Having you along for this weird little adventure is the best part. Seriously.
